Butler County Water Rescue Team 300 was requested for three flash flooding incidents in Butler after severe storms drenched the county Thursday, June 5, according to Butler County Emergency Services dispatch recordings.

The team didn’t see any action during any of the incidents. Fire crews had the flooding under control.

The first call came in around 5:45 p.m. for flooding in the area of 212 W. Penn St. Fire crews reported one vehicle partially in water with the occupants out.

Three minutes later, a second call came in for flooding in the area of 339 N. Washington St. Crews reported two occupied vehicles trapped in water near the YMCA.

An abandoned vehicle stuck in water also was reported near the Maridon Museum.

A third call came in at 5:52 p.m. for flooding in the area of South Monroe and East Cunningham streets for a woman stuck in a vehicle in water. The water rescue team stood by the entire call, according to dispatch recordings.

Butler Mayor Bob Dandoy said the most serious flooding came and went rather quickly on Thursday night and affected mostly low-lying areas of the city, such as the intersection of Monroe and Jefferson streets.

“It was mainly a matter of a lot of rain coming down very quickly,” Dandoy said. “It flooded a couple of areas where there are depressions or dips in the road and the water just couldn't be absorbed by the ground.”

Dandoy added that a section of road near Wrecktify Collision on East Jefferson Street saw some damage and will need to be repaired.

“Water got underneath the road surface and it buckled it up,” Dandoy said. “We'll be repairing that and taking care of it.”

Multiple city residents also reported flooding in residences. A call came in around 5:45 p.m. with a caller reporting 3 to 4 inches of water in their South Cliff Street apartment. Another resident, around 6:26 p.m., reported flooding in their basement on North Chestnut Street.

Butler Eagle staff writer William Pitts contributed to this story.
