Velda Thompson

Velda Moon Thompson, 93, of Golden Hill Nursing Home, New Castle, formerly of State Road, New Castle, died at 12:45 p.m. Thursday at Jameson Hospital North, New Castle.

Born June 17, 1912, in Butler, she was the daughter of Edward Moon and Harriett Causer Moon.

She graduated in 1931 from Butler High School and was a homemaker.

She was a member of the New Covenant Presbyterian Church and the Berean Class at Second Presbyterian. She taught the youth club and leather tooling at Second Presbyterian.

Her hobbies included sewing, seamstress work and leather tooling.

Surviving her are three daughters,

Marybeth Pisor, Vivienne Michaels and Edith Wilson, all of New Castle; eight grandchildren; 14 great grandchildren; and one great-great grandchild.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Gerald R. Thompson, whom she married on Dec. 4, 1935, and who died Jan. 20, 1984; two sisters, Minnie Minteer and Florence Watterson; and four brothers, William, Edward, Harrison and John Moon.

<b>THOMPSON</b> — Friends of Velda Thompson, who died on Thursday, Jan. 26, 2006, will be received from 2 to 6 p.m. Sunday and 10:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. Monday at the R. CUNNINGHAM FUNERAL HOME, 2429 Wilmington Rd., New Castle. The funeral service will be at 11:30 a.m. Monday at the funeral home with the Rev. George Yates and Rev. Bill Hunley of the New Covenant Presbyterian Church officiating.
