Cranberry Twp. begins leak detection survey
CRANBERRY TWP — Township personnel and a subcontractor began Cranberry’s annual water distribution system leak detection survey Monday.
According to the township, work is scheduled to be performed from 7 a.m. and 4 p.m. weekdays, with minimal late night and early weekend hours.
Surveyors will listen for leaks on all fire hydrants, some main line valves and service line valves with a listening device. Leak sounds include water gurgling or spraying. Should workers hear a leak, they will narrow down where it may be located and pinpoint the leak.
Because leaks may be discovered on private lines, workers may ask for assistance, verifying the leak from the property owner, which could entail access onto private property or access to the internal water meter. For those who are asked for assistance, both township personnel and those of the subcontractor will carry an approved Cranberry-issued photo ID badge.
Water leaks can also be discovered on fire hydrants, water main lines or valves or even from internal plumbing fixtures.
Those who are asked to assist but do not wish or cannot grant access are asked to call Cranberry Township at 724-776-4806 to schedule an appointment.
