John F. Slagle Sr.
John F. Slagle Sr., 94, of Callery died Monday at the VNA Inpatient Hospice, Butler.
Born Oct. 6, 1915, in Mosgrove, Armstrong County, he was the son of the late Jared and Grace (Keesey) Slagle.
Mr. Slagle was a World War II U.S. Army veteran and retired as an ironworker after 58 years of service.
He was a life member of the Callery Volunteer Fire Department, a member of the American Legion and a former member of the Lion's Club. Mr. Slagle was also a member of Masonic Lodge 805 of Kittanning for more than 50 years and a member of the Syria Shrine Temple.
He is survived by his wife, Anna (Dufford) Slagle; four sons, John Slagle Jr. of Callery, Dan Slagle of Callery, Don Forringer of New York and Edward Slagle and his wife, Donna, of Irwin; and four daughters, Mary Myers and her husband, Richard, of Dayton, Armstrong County, Dolores Donnadio of Youngstown, Ohio, Cathy Hirleman and her husband, John, of Library and Kathy Dufford of Renfrew; a brother, Earl Slagle and his wife, Dolores, of Templeton; and two sisters, Virginia Milliken of Chicora and Nancy Sabo and her husband, Sonny, of Utah. Also surviving are numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two sons, Frank and Ben Slagle; and 11 brothers and sisters.
