James 'Jim' Vance McElhatten

James McElhatten

James “Jim” Vance McElhatten, 65, of DeKalb, Ill., passed away Sunday, Nov. 24, 2013, after a battle with leukemia with his family by his side.

He was born on March 7, 1948, in Butler.

He was a graduate of Butler High School, Class of 1966. He graduated from Vale Technical Institute in 1967, and then he served his country by serving in the U.S. Army in Vietnam.

Jim retired after 35 years as an assistant manager at Kmart in Mechanicsburg, Pa.

He attended the Kishwaukee Bible Church in Sycamore, Ill. Jim's hobbies include hunting, fishing and gardening. He loved being a grandpa. He was always willing to help anyone who needed a hand.

Jim is survived by his wife, Virginia “Ginny” (née Chronister), who he married in October of 1970. He was the proud father of Brian (Tracy) of Naperville, Ill, and his granddaughters, Kayla and Peyton McElhatten. He is also survived by his brother, David (Anne) of Clearwater, Fla.; his sister, Colleen (Richard “Dick”) Trulick of Butler; and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Eugene and Marie (née Michael) McElhatten.
