Jerry Simpson

Simpson

Jerry Lee Simpson — known to many as The Legend — born Oct. 9, 1947, was originally from Rochester Mills, Pa. He spent most of his life in Mars and Callery. He passed away peacefully Saturday, May 17, 2025, surrounded by family, listening to Jimi Hendrix.

Jerry was a devoted husband, father, pappy, brother and friend. He is survived by his loving wife of 40 years, Connie (Beers) Simpson; his daughters, Shelley (Bill) Fusaro and Amanda (Chris) Eger; and his beloved granddaughters, Lauren Fusaro, Emma and Lillian Eger, who will miss their “Pappy.” He also is survived by his brother, Bob (Debbie) Simpson; his sister, Janet (Bruce) Taylor; as well as many beloved nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Joyce and Nate Simpson.

Jerry graduated from Mars Area High School in 1966, just barely if you believe his stories. He was a proud 57-year member of the International Union of Operating Engineers Local 66. As a skilled crane operator, he contributed to major projects including PNC Park and the Petersen Events Center — landmarks, he was always proud to point out. His favorite memory, and one he often recalled with pride, was setting the Pitt Panther statue at Heinz Field.

Jerry lived life on his own terms. He loved to golf, hunt, fish, watch the Steelers, and spend time with family and friends. He was a member of the Evans City Sportsmen’s Club, where he enjoyed trap shooting. He was a social member of Harmony-Evans City VFW Post 499, where he loved to socialize and gamble. He is now reunited with many four-legged companions who have long missed him sneaking them table scraps.

Jerry Lee Simpson’s legacy lives on in every beam lifted, every bet placed, every tail wagged, every drink toasted and every memory treasured. He will be deeply missed, never forgotten and forever admired.
