George R. Smiley

George Raymond Smiley, 85, of Sewickley, formerly of Hanover, Md., and Butler, passed away at 11:30 a.m. on Thursday at Masonic Villages in Sewickley.

He was born April 20, 1927, in Springdale, the son of the late Carl Raymond Smiley and the late Anna (Overbeck) Smiley.

George was a member of the First English Lutheran Church, Victory Lodge 694 F.&A.M. Masonic Lodge, Scottish Rite of New Castle, Syria Temple, Butler Caravan 14 and the Butler Shrine Luncheon Club. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army, having served in World War II.

Surviving are his daughter, Ruth E. and her husband, Paul Lattimore, of Mt. Holly, N.C.; his son, Paul Wm. and his wife, Patricia Smiley, of Danville, Ky.; one brother, Carl A. Smiley of Memphis, Tenn.; five grandchildren, Laura Lattimore and her husband, Takeshi Kido, of North Carolina, Debby Lattimore and her husband, James Joyce, of North Carolina, Owen and his wife, Molly Smiley, of Colorado, Kevin Smiley of Texas and Eric Smiley of Kentucky; and two great-grandchildren, Kent Kido and Ella Smiley.He was preceded in death by his first wife, Mary Ruth “Sox” (Stewart) Smiley, who died Nov. 18, 1992; his second wife, Julie Smiley; three sisters; and four brothers.

SMILEY — Friends of George Raymond Smiley, who died Thursday, Aug. 2, 2012, will be received at Young Funeral Home, 127 W. Jefferson St., Butler on Monday from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m.Services will be held at the funeral home Tuesday at 11 a.m. with his pastor, James Dollhopf, officiating.Private interment will be in Zion Methodist Cemetery in Maryland.A Masonic service by Victory Lodge 694 will be at the funeral home on Monday at 6:45 p.m.In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the United Way, 184 Pittsburgh Road, Butler, PA 16001.For more information, go to www.youngfuneralhomes.com.
