High school roundup: Karns City softball gets revenge and baseball comes through in sweep of rival Moniteau
Karns City softball got some revenge after last week’s home loss to rival Moniteau, beating the Warriors 7-3 Monday night in the rematch.
Lyrik Reed (3-for-4) tripled for the Gremlins (11-7, 6-2 KSAC), driving in a run and scoring another. She also stole two bases. Ronni Radaker (1-for-2) scored twice.
Addison Burrows was 2-for-3 with a pair of runs, and in the circle she struck out five in a complete-game effort.
The Warriors (8-9, 5-3) put up five doubles from five different hitters, with Alex Stewart and Halle Beatty each going 2-for-4 with a two-bagger and run scored.
Slippery Rock 14, Lakeview 1 (5 inn.) — Savannah Smith and Lillian Campbell both smacked home runs in a 12-run second inning to power Slippery Rock to a win.
Smith finished 2-for-3 with two runs, plus her three-run homer to end the second; Campbell went 3-for-3 with her two-run bomb.
Joslyn Korcok struck out five and scattered five hits to pick up the win in the circle for the Rockets (4-12). She also went 3-for-4 with an RBI at the plate. Grace Greer (2-for-4), Delaney Staab (1-for-4) and Grace Wetzel (0-for-4) scored two runs each.
Jacob Jones struck out 13 and scattered four hits and three runs (one earned) to fend off Moniteau in Karns City’s 5-3 win. It’s Moniteau’s first KSAC loss of the season.
Jones helped himself at the plate, going 2-for-4 with a pair of doubles and two runs scored. Adam Manuel went 2-for-4 with a double and RBI, and Brock Dittman was 2-for-3 with an RBI and run for the Gremlins (11-5, 5-3 KSAC).
Ian Ross led the Warriors (10-8, 7-1) at the plate, going 1-for-3 with a run.
Hickory 6, Slippery Rock 5 — Drew Manzo singled to drive in Michael Ristvey in the bottom of the seventh inning, giving Hickory at walkoff win over Slippery Rock.
The Rockets (11-4) were held to just four hits, as Doug Popovec went 1-for-3 with two RBIs.
