Robert J. Waite, 83, formerly of Corry in Erie County, died Saturday at his home on West Jefferson Road in Butler.

Born July 16, 1922, in Olean, N.Y., he was a son of Phillip M. and Elva A. McDevitt Waite.

As a young man, he moved to Jamestown, N.Y., and then to Corry, where he graduated from Corry High School in 1939. He also was a graduate of St. Vincent College in Latrobe.

During World War II, he served with the Army Air Force in Europe. Following his discharge he was a salesman for Associated Spring-Barnes Group in Corry. He then became a co-owner of the Union Spring Co. based in Pittsburgh.

Mr. Waite enjoyed golfing and was a member of the Oakmont Country Club.

Survivors include his companion, Lola Nebel of Butler; four daughters, Terri Gage and Connie McCray and her husband, Henry, all of Corry, Boni Bowley and her husband, Frank, of Sheffield and Gail Kirsch and her husband, Shawn, of Russell; three sons Jerry Waite and his wife, Young Hui, and James Waite and his wife, Deanna, all of Warren, Pa., and David Waite of Corry; and his former wife, Victoria F. Wojcicehowski Waite of Corry. Also surviving are 11 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by a sister, Rita May Waite.

WAITE — Friends of Robert J. Waite, who died Saturday, Feb. 25, 2006, will be received from 1 to 1:30 p.m. Tuesday at the BRACKEN FUNERAL HOME, 315 N. Center St., Corry, where prayer service will follow at 1:30 p.m. A Mass of Christian burial will follow at 2 p.m. Tuesday at St. Elizabeth Roman Catholic Church, 26 W. Pleasant St., Corry, with the Rev. Thomas Brown as celebrant.
