Mail carriers to collect for food drive
Letter carriers in 10,000 cities and towns across America will collect non-perishable foods this Saturday, May 10, as part of the National Association of Letter Carriers’ Stamp Out Hunger National Food Drive.
Carriers will collect donations left by mailboxes and in post offices and deliver them to local community food banks, pantries and shelters. The drive has delivered more than 1.82 billion pounds of food the past 30 years, a Postal Service release said.
The United States Postal Service, National Association of Letter Carriers, National Rural Letter Carriers’ Association, AFL-CIO, United Way, Vericast, Valpak Direct Marketing Systems, CVS Health, Kellogg Company and United Food and Commercial Workers International Union are all supporting this year’s Stamp Out Hunger food drive.
To donate, one can place a box or can of non-perishable food next to their mailbox before their carrier delivers mail on Saturday. The carrier will do the rest.
