ADAMS TWP — Road work began today on a section of Route 228 just west of its intersection with Pittsburgh Street and Warrendale Road.

State Department of Transportation crews will mill and pave the road through the intersection with Mars Valencia Road to about half-mile west of Brickyard Road.

Work will be done between 7 p.m. and 6 a.m. and is expected to be completed Friday.

Traffic impacts will include lane shifts and single-lane flagger-controlled patterns. Traffic patterns will return to normal configurations during the day.

Other planned work includes finish paving, line painting, and signal work which will occur over the next few weeks.

CHICORA — The Chicora Volunteer Fire Department was awarded more than $52,000 in grants.U.S. Sen. Bob Casey, D-Pa., announced that the Federal Emergency Management Agency under the Department of Homeland Security awarded the grants to the fire company for operations and safety.
