Karns City baseball is on the kind of hot streak any coach would love.
The Gremlins mercy-ruled Keystone 10-0 in five innings Monday night at Pullman Park in the second straight meeting between the two teams in three days.
The win, which came on senior night, is Karns City’s fourth straight, all by large shutouts. They have outscored their last four opponents 38-0.
“It’s fun to watch from down third when guys are hitting balls all over the yard and dugout’s having fun,” KC coach Josh Smith said.
It took until the second inning for the Gremlins (8-4, 3-2 KSAC) to get to Panthers starting pitcher Brayden Dunlap.
Five straight Gremlins got on base to start the inning, capped by Koen Williams’ single that drove in two runs to make it 3-0. A ground-out and Colton Christie sacrifice fly added two more to the board, and Karns City finished things off with a run off an error and Adam Manuel’s RBI-single to make it 7-0.
Manuel and Tyler Kelly finished 2-for-3, with Manuel driving in a run and scoring another. Kelly doubled twice and finished with two RBIs and a run scored.
“Adam Manuel, coming in there and being aggressive offensively,” Smith said. “He’s been hitting really well, guys have been hitting really well, we’ve been having a lot of fun.”
Mason Sherwin, who recently committed to Thiel College, joining older brother Cole, was 1-for-3 with a run and RBI. Williams finished 1-for-2 with two runs and two more driven in.
Jacob Jones fired five shutout innings, allowing four hits while striking out eight.
