Man careens through golf course in car
PITTSBURGH — An 82-year-old man lost control of his car in a suburban Pittsburgh golf course, careening past holes before hitting an oak tree, bouncing off a pine, spinning in a circle and finally stopping.
Driver Paul Lazear and four passengers were pulled from the burning vehicle by other golfers who watched the scene on Tuesday from the third hole of the Cloverleaf Golf Course.
Golfer Dave Higinbotham says the SUV clipped his golf cart, narrowly missing him. Higinbotham says he and six other golfers pulled the people from the vehicle and then pushed the burning car down the hill and away from the scene.
Police say all five people in the car suffered injuries that are not considered life-threatening. Police say Lazear told them he lost his brakes and was unable to stop the vehicle.
