Two candidates are vying for the open seat in the Clay Township board of supervisors.
Either Dale Anderson or Richard Lawhead Jr. will join the other two Clay Township supervisors, chairperson Jeffrey Scott and vice-chairperson Gregory Tebay, after the May 20 primary election. Anderson holds the seat presently and would serve another 4-year term if reelected.
Both candidates are running as Republicans, meaning they will likely run unopposed in the Nov. 4 municipal election. The winning candidate will take office Jan. 6.
No Democratic candidates are running in the primary.
In addition to the Clay Township municipal building, the township offers community space in the Clay Township Community Park and State Game Lands Number 95 as public spaces. Township meetings are held at 6 p.m. the first Thursday of the month.
The Butler Eagle contacted both Lawhead and Anderson. Lawhead declined to answer any questions.

Anderson said he’s worked in management for Clay Township for more than three decades and has other experience as a heavy equipment operator and in road construction.
With his previous construction experience, some of his priorities include improving road conditions and the township’s community park.
Anderson: “To maintain the township roadways and to make them as safe as possible with the limited funding we have at our disposal.”
What do you feel are the top three issues affecting Clay Township? Do you have any ideas to begin resolving them?
Anderson listed deteriorating roadways, aging equipment and community park upgrades as his top township issues.
Anderson: “It is always my concern of the maintenance and condition of the township roads and how to make them as safe as possible. With aging road equipment, I am always looking for ways to update, or replace it.”
“We are constantly trying to make our park exceptional,” Anderson said. “I make a sincere and deliberate attempt to make The Clay Township Park bigger, and better as I was one of its park founders.”
Anderson: “I can say that I have an outstanding relationship with the other supervisors. We work very well together as they feel as I do about accomplishing positive things for our community.”
