Clinton barn burns

CLINTON TWP — While Ted Tomson lost a barn to a fire Thursday afternoon, the prized possessions at his Stark Road farm came out unscathed.

None of the racing horses he breeds there were injured.

Out of Tomson’s entire stock, the yearlings are kept at this farm.

His family business, TSM Racing, enters its horses at numerous racetracks, including the Meadows in Washington County and the Pocono Downs in Luzerne County.

The horses were spared any harm because they are free to enter and exit the barn as they please. Along with hay that fueled the flames, Tomson lost a skid loader, a wagon and some farm equipment.

Firefighters from six volunteer departments spent the afternoon ensuring all the barn’s remnants were soaked.

Assistant Chief Paul Harrity of the Saxonburg Volunteer Fire Company said the metal roof collapsed, elongating the process to douse the blaze.

“When I arrived, the building was fully engulfed,” he said.
