Man pulls knife, demands cigarettes, money
A would-be robber is accused of pulling a knife on another man he saw walking with his ex-girlfriend Thursday, authorities said.
Butler police said Hunter S. Dittmer, 21, of Butler demanded the alleged victim's cigarettes and money during the incident about 1 p.m. Nothing was taken, and no one was injured. Officers later arrested Dittmer, who was arraigned on a felony charge of attempted robbery and misdemeanor charges of reckless endangerment and disorderly conduct. He was placed in the Butler County Prison in lieu of $5,000 bond following arraignment.
The 20-year-old victim told police that he and Dittmer's former girlfriend saw Dittmer as they walked out of a downtown Butler store. The suspect allegedly called the other man a derogatory name before crossing the street and following the pair.
At some point, according to charging documents, Dittmer “pulled out a knife from his pocket and told (the victim) to give him cigarettes and money.”
The knife was described as being silver and between 5 and 8 inches long.
The 22-year-old woman recounted that Dittmer also threatened to beat up the victim. Following the alleged threat, the other man pulled out his cellphone, apparently prompting the suspect to call him the same derogatory name as before.
Police said they found the Dittmer about 7:15 p.m. at Main and North streets where he was taken into custody. Dittmer's preliminary hearing was not immediately scheduled. Online court records did not list an attorney.
