Joseph Schmeider Jr.

Schmeider

Joseph J. Schmeider Jr., 74, of Fort Myers, Fla., gained his angel wings on Sunday, Jan. 19, 2025, at Hope Hospice in Cape Coral, Fla. He was surrounded by love with his family.

Born on Sept. 17, 1950, in Cabot, he was the son of the late Joseph Sr. and Helen Schmeider.

Joe was a 1968 graduate of Knoch High School, where he was a great trumpet player in the school band and voted “Best Looking” by his classmates. After graduation, he began working at the Armco steel mill in Butler, following in his father’s footsteps.

In 1970, Joe enlisted in the National Guard Reserve and served until 1976. He married Victoria Lynn Dailey of Butler on Aug. 6, 1971, and they made their home in Cabot. Joe retired from Armco Steel after being employed for 35 years. He then began volunteering for the Marwood food bank, which he did for many years.

Joe and Vikki were active members of the Butler Two Steppers Club for over a decade, where they made many new friends, as well as enjoyed numerous bicycle riding adventures. Upon Vikki’s retirement, they became Florida winter snowbirds for the last 12 years.

“Pappy Joe and Mimi” loved nature and spent countless hours landscaping, raising pond fish and growing a variety of plants. They enjoyed traveling and spending time with their five grandchildren.

Surviving are his son, Justin J. Schmeider, his wife, Heather, and two grandchildren, Justice and Liberty of Butler; and his daughter, Nickolette Goodemote, her husband, Wesley, and three grandchildren, Charlotte, Lincoln and Gracie of New Wilmington, Pa., with whom Joe and his late wife, Vikki, made their home during the summer months.

In addition to his parents, Joe was preceded in death by his wife of 52 years, Victoria Lynn, who passed away Nov. 21, 2023; and his brother, Jeffrey Schmeider.

A celebration of life, honoring both Joe and Vikki, is being planned for May 2025 in New Wilmington, Pa., with family and friends.
