Richard L. Jarrett

Richard L. Jarrett, 90, a resident of Passavant Retirement Community in Zelienople, formerly of Rochester, passed away Wednesday.

Born on Dec. 11, 1923, in Rochester, he was the son of the late Leon Edwin and Eunice Heller Jarrett.

Richard graduated from Rochester High School and from Geneva College with degrees in mathematics and English.

Following school, he worked for the American Bridge Division of U.S. Steel as a design draftsman in Ambridge.

He was a former board member and treasurer of the Rochester Public Library. Richard was a former member of the Trinity Lutheran Church in New Brighton, where he served on the church council. He was a current member of the Seaman Memorial Chapel at Passavant Retirement Community, where he served as the camera operator for Sunday services. He was a certified master gardener through Penn State University and loved flower gardening. Richard was also a member of New Castle Consistory.

He leaves behind to cherish his memory, his beloved wife of 56 years, Mary Fetterly Jarrett, who he married on June 14, 1958; his daughter, Elizabeth Sumiejski and her husband, James; his son, David Jarrett; his granddaughter, Laura Sumiejski Halvorson and her husband, Tristan, and his grandson, Bradley Sumiejski.

Jarrett— The Jarrett family will welcome friends of Richard L. Jarrett, who passed away Wednesday, Sept. 24, 2014, from 10 a.m. until the funeral ceremony at 11 a.m. Saturday at the Seaman Memorial Chapel at Passavant Retirement Community, 401 S. Main St., Zelienople, with the Rev. Wilfred Goetze and the Rev. Susie Esseck co-officiating. Richard will be laid to rest at Sylvania Hills Memorial Park, Rochester.The Jarrett family would like to take this opportunity to thank all those at Passavant Retirement Community who cared for Richard in recent years.In lieu of flowers, the Jarrett family suggests memorial donations be made to the Passavant Benevolent Fund/LAS Foundation, 401 S.
