PITTSBURGH — Republican state Sen. Jane Orie this morning waived her right to a preliminary hearing on 16 new charges including perjury and forgery that grew out of her testimony and allegedly forged defense documents in her first corruption trial earlier this year.

Orie’s decision means she acknowledges that Allegheny County prosecutors have enough evidence to try her on those counts.

Her brief appearance before a city district judge in Pittsburgh preceded today’s pretrial hearing on her original corruption charges.

Orie is scheduled for retrial on Monday along with her sister, Janine Orie, on those charges.
