BUTLER TWP - The Butler Veterans Affairs Medical Center is offering its annual flu vaccine clinic on a walk-in basis to all veterans.

Veterans not currently registered with the Butler VAMC or those who have not received the flu vaccine from the VA in recent years must bring a copy of their DD 214 discharge papers as verification. Veterans will not have an out-of-pocket cost for the vaccine.

A flu clinic is scheduled from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Oct. 26 in the auditorium of Building 1.

The Visiting Nurses Association of Western Pennsylvania is scheduled to provide vaccines to veterans' spouses on the same day pending arrival of their flu serum. Cost to veteran spouses would be $20, payable that same day in cash or check.

However, veteran spouses who have Medicare B or Security Blue as their primary insurance will not incur an out-of-pocket cost as long as they can show insurance information.

Other flu clinics are being arranged, but are not confirmed at this time. For more information or directions, interested persons are asked to call the medical center at 724-287-4781 or toll-free 800-362-8262.

CRANBERRY TWP - A representative of Bellevue Pediatrics will present "Your Baby's First Year: What to Expect" at 7 p.m. Oct. 25 at the Cranberry Township Library, 2525 Rochester Road.

MARS - An Evans City pharmacist will conduct a discussion of the Federal Drug Administration's new food pyramid at 7 p.m. Wednesday at Mars Public Library, 107 Grand Ave.Jeff Mustovic, pharmacist of the Evans City Pharmacy, will talk about how the food pyramid promotes better food selections and physical activity to improve overall health. CRANBERRY TWP - UPMC Passavant Cranberry is offering flu shots and classes on how to quit smoking.9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, flu shots for those 65 and older in the hospital's surgical center on the lower level, 1 St. Francis Way, no pre-registration. The hospital will bill Medicare Part B, UPMC Health Plan, Security Blue and Advantra. Recipients with other insurance carriers will be charged a $12 cash fee at the time of the vaccination. For more information, call 412-367-6887.11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. beginning Tuesday, a seven-week class on smoking cessation, in the second-floor conference room at UPMC Passavant Cranberry. The program will focus on orientation, preparation, quit-day, stress management, benefits of quitting and relapse prevention.A smoking cessation facilitator, certified by the University of Pittsburgh, will conduct the program. Participants can also attend UPMC Passavant's free weekly Stop Smoking Program Support Group for as long as they wish after they complete the program.The cost is $25, payable at the first session.
