Broadband bill passage applauded
HARRISBURG — Gov. Tom Wolf on Thursday applauded the state Senate’s unanimous passage of a bill that will bring high-speed internet to students, businesses and residents across Pennsylvania.
The state House passed the bill earlier this week.
The bill will add a Broadband Development Authority in Pennsylvania, which will manage at least $100 million in federal aid to support a coordinated and strategic rollout of broadband across the state via the construction of new towers, lines and equipment.
Wolf called the bill “a generational change” for many rural communities that lack internet access and all communities without sufficient internet access.
