A man who ran a red light and crashed into a motorcycle while responding to a call as a volunteer firefighter was sentenced this morning to probation.

Leroy Goepfert, 30, of Butler Township was responding to an emergency call Sept. 5, 2008, as a volunteer for the East Butler Volunteer Fire Department when he failed to stop at a red light at Evans Road.

The pickup he was driving crashed into a motorcycle driven by Devin Christie.

Christie, 21, of Chicora, in court Thursday, told Judge Tim McCune of the lengthy rehabilitation he endured and the effects the crash continues to have on his physical and mental abilities.
