Central Electric Cooperative
Central Electric Cooperative is offering a new broadband satellite Internet service through Central Electric Services Corp., a wholly-owned subsidiary of Central Electric Cooperative.
The successful launch of the WildBlue Anik F2 satellite on July 17, 2004, moves Central Electric closer to offering affordable, high-speed Internet service anywhere in northwestern Pennsylvania. The cooperative will offer the service this summer.
Central Electric recognized the growing "digital divide" that exists in our own region. In the spirit of Central Electric's original incorporators, who brought electric power to rural areas in the 1930's, today's Central Electric is taking steps to bring vital broadband Internet service to northwest Pennsylvania.
WildBlue satellite-delivered Internet will be available virtually everywhere in the contiguous United States, and can be used even where cable modem and digital subscriber line Internet access is not available. Central Electric, a local provider of electricity and affordable long distance rates, will, through CESCO, provide installation, service and support for this broadband offering.
With service that is up to 30 times faster than standard 56K dialup connections, WildBlue will allow users to retrieve information and access content that is not available through dial-up modems. It will provide a continuous online connection, so subscribers don't tie up phone lines, and the faster speeds will save users time and businesses money.
Additionally, DirectTV and DISH subscribers will be able to use one dish for both satellite TV and two-way Internet access.
Lany Adams, chief executive officer and general manager of the cooperative stated, "We are pleased to bring affordable, two-way high-speed Internet access that is always on and available anywhere in rural areas of northwestern Pennsylvania. This is a service that is available to anybody - not just Central Electric members."
WildBlue is finalizing its specific product offerings, and is considering several packages to accommodate various user needs, including residential and business service.
"We are pleased to bring Internet access that is comparable to what is available in urban areas," continued Adams. "Anyone who wants to learn more about the product is invited to visit our Web site, www.central.coop, and click the WildBlue link to be placed on a no-obligation waiting list and receive product updates, or call 800-521-0570."
