Native American festival aids wildlife
VENANGO COUNTY — A Native American festival is scheduled for this weekend at Skye's Spirit Wildlife Rehabilitation and Education Center.
It will run from noon until dusk on Saturday and Sunday.
Scheduled activities include live non-releasable birds of prey, turtles, and bobcat on display; Native American drumming, singing and dancing; craft and other item vendors; Wild Bird Recovery songbird rehab, Native American food; a Chinese auction; guitar music and singing by Bill Eberlin, and a candy dance for children.
The state and federally licensed center is about six miles north of Harrisville, and provides care and rehabilitation of nearly 700 injured and orphaned wild animals each year.
It runs solely on donations from the public, and all donations are tax deductible.
Donations have been so low that the center actually had to stop taking in animals for a little over a month this summer.
