EMERALD MENACE

The emerald ash borer, a tiny green beetle that can kill an ash tree in three years, was discovered in June in Cranberry Township. State agriculture officials say the beetle has been in the township for five to seven years. A quarantine of ash wood continues in Butler, Beaver, Allegheny and Lawrence counties.
