JUNIOR MISS 1966

With a million-dollar smile, Sally Simons, Pennsylvania's Junior Miss in 1966, could hardly contain her excitement as she was preparing to depart for Mobile, Ala., for America's Junior Miss competition. Simons was a Butler County native and a graduate of Knoch High School, where she was an assistant-head majorette. She was crowned Pennsylvania's Junior Miss in Nov. 1964 in Redding. The national competition took place on March 26, 1966. Simons' roommate, Diane Wilkins, from Wauwatosa, Wis. was crowned America's Junior Miss that evening. Although the annual scholarship pageants continue on the county, state and national level, a medallion has replaced the traditional crown. This year's Butler Junior Miss Competition will take place at 7 p.m. Saturday at Butler Intermediate High School, with 14 competing for scholarship prizes. In last week's photograph of young skateboarders, the unidentified girl is Michelle Vero. The Eagle will publish file photographs from the past each Wednesday and Sunday.
