Man jailed for alleged gunfire over parking

He faces 22 charges, including 6 felonies

SLIPPERY ROCK TWP — An early morning argument over parking turned violent Sunday, authorities said, when a man fired a handgun past the heads of two others at an apartment complex. No one was injured.

The suspect drove away, but state police arrested him a short time later. In his car, troopers allegedly seized a dozen marijuana vapes and more than $1,500 in currency; they also found the gun, which allegedly turned out to be stolen.

Jermaine L. Jett, 20, of Natrona Heights, Allegheny County, is being held in the Butler County Prison without bail in the incident at the Grove at Slippery Rock apartments. He is facing 22 charges, including a half-dozen felonies.

A call for a shooting around 2:18 a.m. Sunday sent police to the apartment complex on Harmony Road in Slippery Rock Township, authorities said. While responding, a trooper spotted a car travel briefly in his lane on Branchton Road.

The car, police said, matched the description of the shooter's getaway vehicle. The trooper stopped it.

The driver, who was identified as Jett, allegedly appeared impaired and the car reportedly smelled of marijuana.

A search of the vehicle, police said, turned up a 9 mm pistol that had one fired shell casing jammed in the slide. The gun was allegedly loaded with a 30-round magazine that had 16 live rounds.

A check of the National Crime Information Center, documents said, showed the gun was previously reported stolen from Harrison Township, Allegheny County. In the car, police also allegedly found 12 individually packaged THC cartridges.

Additionally, police said they found Jett with $1,540 and a fake West Virginia identification card.

The investigation subsequently determined that the incident began over parking, police said. The suspect is accused of getting out of his car and confronting two men at the apartment complex.

“Jett pointed a black handgun at both (victims') heads then pulled away,” documents said, “and fired one round directly past them, then fled the scene.”

He is charged with possession with intent to deliver a controlled substance, dealing in proceeds of unlawful activities, two counts of aggravated assault, receiving stolen property and possession of a firearm without a carry license, all felonies.

Additionally, he is charged with possession of a controlled substance, driving under the influence, DUI by a minor, possession of an instrument of crime and two counts each of simple assault and reckless endangerment, all misdemeanors.

He also is charged with the following summaries: two counts of harassment, disorderly conduct, underage drinking, carrying a false ID card, failing to keep right, careless driving and reckless driving.

A preliminary hearing for Jett is scheduled for Sept. 4 at the office of District Judge Bill O'Donnell in Slippery Rock. Online records did not list an attorney for Jett.
