Karns City's Katie Kepple, the District 9 Girls Player of the Year, will be honored along with other neighboring district MVPs at the Eat'n Park Western Pennsylvania Girls High School Hall of Fame Banquet May 6 at the Sheraton Station Square Hotel.
Others to be honored include Rockwood's Megan Schmuck (District 5), Altoona's Amanda Pierce (District 6), Monessen's Charel Allen (District 7), Schenley's Dominique Duck (District 8) and Mercyhurst Prep's Chelsea Gordon, Erin Kerner and Mashea Williams (District 10).
Chris Dowling tallied seven goals and Patrick Wellner added six goals to lead the Butler Junior High in-line hockey team to 9-2 and 9-4 victories over Shaler to advance to the section finals.Roman Bianco and Shawn Smith added two goals apiece, and Doug Green had one goal. Goalie Timmy Smith picked up both wins.Butler (17-1) will play either Seneca Valley or North Allegheny in an upcoming best-of-three championship series.

VANCOUVER, British Columbia - The NHL suspended Dallas goalie Marty Turco for four games without pay Thursday for hitting the Oilers' Ryan Smyth in the mouth with his stick the previous night.The league also suspended Columbus Blue Jackets forward Jody Shelley for three games for fighting against the Minnesota Wild on Wednesday.
