Brian Etzel, 9, of Butler finished second in Kid Car, junior division at the 10th annual Freeport Soap Box Derby Monday.

Etzel was also won the Best of Show award.

His older brother, Adam, 10, placed fourth in the Kid Car senior division.

Dusty Cranmer of the Butler Gymnastics Club placed fourth in parallel bars at the 2004 Junior Olympics National Gymnastics Championships at the Mission Valley YMCA in San Diego, Calif.Cranmer scored a 17.45 in the event.Teammate Chad Wiest, who competed with a broken bone in his wrist, placed seventh with a 17.10 on the parallel bars while Cody Carnahan finished 16th on the floor with an 18.025 and Eddie Hay finished 20th with an 18.625.This was the first time any Butler boy participated the national Junior Olympic gymnastics competition.

Sara Hamil, a sophomore first baseman for the Butler High School softball team, collected nine hits in 12 at-bats while playing for the Ellwood City Rampage at the 40-team Memorial Day Madness Tournament in Mechanicsburg.Hamil had eight RBI and two doubles. She also won the event's home run derby.
