The Butler County American Legion baseball league advanced four of 19 players in the all-star tryouts Thursday at Somerset High School.

Prospect's Ryan Hays (OF) and Sean Ray (2B), East Butler's Jacob Slater (3B) and Karns City's Josh Smith (C) advanced to the next round, to be held Saturday at Beaver Stadium at Penn State University.

Three area athletes have earned track and field letters from Westminster College this past spring: senior Sean Gallagher (Mars High School), sophomore Brian Campbell (Grove City) and freshman Kevin Facciani (Seneca Valley).

Grove City College senior Peggy Whitbeck and junior Megan Hulick each earned College Division Women's At-Large Academic All-America honors from CoSIDA Thursday.Whitbeck, a member of the swim team, earned first-team honors while Hulick, a graduate of Butler High School and a member of the tennis team , was named to the third team.Senior swimmer Drew McKelvy of Portersville earned second-team College Division Men's Academic All-America honors.
