GALLOWAY TOWNSHIP, N.J. - Cristie Kerr hit an 8-foot birdie putt on the 18th hole to win the ShopRite LPGA Classic on Sunday, spoiling 17-year-old Paula Creamer's bid to make history.
Kerr finished with a 3-under 68 and a three-day total of 11-under 202.
Creamer was vying to become the first amateur to win an LPGA title since Joanne Carner in 1969. Creamer (69) and Giulia Sergas (71) finished one shot back.
ATLANTA - Cleveland Indians pitcher Cliff Lee was suspended for six games Saturday for throwing behind Ken Griffey Jr.'s head.Lee fastball whizzed behind Griffey in the fourth inning last Sunday, and plate umpire Matt Hollowell tossed the left-hander almost as quickly as the ball reached the backstop.Lee, who maintained he wasn't trying to hit Griffey, appealed the suspension.
WIMBLEDON, England - Former finalist David Nalbandian pulled out of Wimbledon on Saturday with a torn abdominal muscle.Nalbandian was the runner-up to Lleyton Hewitt at Wimbledon in 2002.
INDIANAPOLIS - Michael Schumacher cruised to a 2.9-second victory over Ferrari teammate Rubens Barrichello in a U.S. Grand Prix marred by several crashes Sunday, including one that left his brother in an Indianapolis hospital with back pain.It took track workers several minutes to get Ralf Schumacher out of the car after he lost control, spun twice coming out of turn 13 and slammed hard into the outside wall. Team owner Frank Williams said the younger Schumacher was conscious, and able to move his arms and legs. The team issued a statement saying he would be kept overnight for observation.
SPARTA, Ky. - Kyle Busch took the lead with two laps to go and held on to win the Meijer 300 at Kentucky Speedway on Saturday night for his third NASCAR Busch Series victory of the year.
ST. GEORGE'S, Grenada - The United States got a quick goal from Landon Donovan, then a tiebreaker from Josh Wolff in a 3-2 victory over Grenada on Sunday. The win lifted the United States into the CONCACAF regional semifinals for the 2006 World Cup.Last week, the Americans, ranked ninth in the world, won 3-0, boosted by two goals from DaMarcus Beasley, who also scored Sunday.
