Five Seneca Valley varsity lacrosse players were named first-team all-section for Division II play by the Pittsburgh Chapter of U.S. Lacrosse.

Anthony Eonta, midfield; Chad Melberg, attack; Pete Poillon, attack; Brent Tranter, long stick midfield and Kevin Creedon, defense were all honored for their play this season.

Seneca Valley ended its 2004 season as the Division II champion and will move up to Division 1 play next year.

John Aubrey Jr. of Butler finished tied for fifth in the Western Pennsylvania Golf Association's Public Links Championship Wednesday at Cranberry Highlands Golf Course in Cranberry TownshipAubrey shot a 73-67-140 to tie Tim Murphy of Greensburg, who recorded a 72-68-140.Other area players who competed are Ken Waldron of Sarver (77-74-151), Brady Ruffner of Freeport (73-81-154) and Bill Wotus of Cranberry Township (77-80-157).

The Meridian 12-year-old all-stars won the annual Butler Area Baseball Association tournament.The team was 4-0 and scored 51 runs while allowing only nine.Members of the team are Grant Foley, Anthony Lewis, Jake Keefer, Jeremiah McCaslin, Ronnie Glassman, Nolan Lewis, Eric Turner, Alex Ravas, Zach Smith, Corey Branchen and Cody Pilarcik.Coaches are Kevin Lewis, Jeff Foley and Bill Glassman.

PITTSBURGH - Linebacker James Farrior reached a five-year deal with the Pittsburgh Steelers Thursday.Farrior will receive a $4.5 million signing bonus as part of a $16.4 million deal.
