Butler's John Strutt won the 800-meter event last weekend at the Tri-State Track Coaches Association championship indoor track meet at Robert Morris University.

Other Golden Tornado athletes winning medals were Ryan Banner in the long jump, Brian McCandless in the high jump and Doug Moran in the 440 meters.

Butler's 3,200-relay unit of Josh Cable, Chris Henry, James Rogerson and Strutt, along with the 1,600 quartet of Casey Piper, Brian Wiley, Mike Fisher and Wade Grubbs also medaled.

NEW YORK - A contingent of Olympic officials toured sites in Queens and Manhattan Tuesday, including the National Tennis Center, Madison Square Garden and the proposed home of a new Manhattan stadium.The members of the IOC Evaluation Commission were scheduled to look at the railyards where the stadium would rise. The city envisions the stadium as the site of the opening ceremony for the 2012 Games. The Queens visit included a stop at the National Tennis Center, home of the U.S. Open, and another at the site of the proposed Olympic Village.The members have already toured Madrid and London, and will visit Paris and Moscow before picking a host city on July 6.

FOXBORO, Mass. - Adam Vinatieri was designated the New England Patriots' franchise player Tuesday for the second time in his career. The Pro Bowl kicker was due to become a free agent next month.

CARLSBAD, Calif. - Officials Tuesday delayed the start of the Match Play Championship to give La Costa Resort a chance to drain. The first round of 18-hole matches now will start Thursday, followed by two rounds each day through Saturday and the 36-hole final match Sunday.

INDIANAPOLIS - The Indianapolis Colts designated Edgerrin James their franchise player Tuesday. The Pro Bowl running back is a non-exclusive franchise player, which means James could accept a one-year deal from the Colts worth a little more than $8 million - a 20 percent raise from his salary last season - try to work out a long-term deal with the Indianapolis or sign with another team.Indianapolis would have seven days to match another team's offer and would be compensated with two first-round draft choices if James leaves.

KIRKLAND, Wash. (AP) - The Seattle Seahawks signed quarterback Matt Hasselbeck to a six-year deal and named running back Shaun Alexander their franchise player, ensuring that their three top offensive players are under their control. Last week, the Seahawks signed all-pro offensive tackle Walter Jones to a seven-year deal.In addition, general manager Bob Ferguson resigned as part of an executive house-cleaning.
