BOSTON - Boston pitcher Matt Clement turned in a sparkling effort in Wednesday's game with Oakland at Fenway Park, but he still came away with no decision

The Red Sox had built a 4-1 lead for the Butler native, who struck out four, walked one and surrendered one run on five hits when he left after seven innings.

But Boston closer Keith Foulke gave up four runs in the top of the ninth, giving the Athletics a 5-4 lead before catcher Jason Varitek won it for the Red Sox with a two-run homer in the bottom of the inning to secure a 6-5 victory.

Slippery Rock University shortstop Stacey Rhoades was named PSAC West Women's Softball Rookie of the Year.The freshman batted .349 while playing in all 43 Rock games. She set single-season school records with 35 runs scored, eight home runs, 27 RBI and 76 total bases.Teammate Andrea Murdoch, another freshman, made the All-PSAC West first team as a left fielder. She hit .383 and set a school record with 47 hits this spring.SRU won a school-record 24 games this season, breaking the mark that had stood for 25 years.
