Former Seneca Valley varsity football coach Rick Shepas was head coach at Waynesburg College.
Shepas coached at Seneca Valley in 1996 and 1997, guiding the Raiders to the WPIAL semifinals in his second year. He moved on to Massillon (Ohio) and posted a 53-28 record there over the past seven years.
Since finishing 3-7 in 2001, Waynesburg has posted three consecutive winning seasons, including a 7-4 mark last year.
Slippery Rock University women's swimming standout Jennifer Zuzack was named to ESPN the Magazine's Academic All-District II College Division Women's At-Large first team by the College Sports Information Directors of America.Zuzack, a senior, has a 4.0 grade point average as an exercise science major. She was a finalist in four events at the PSAC Championships and owns SRU's 100-yard freestyle school record at 53.04 seconds.
PITTSBURGH - Former Pittsburgh Steelers receiver Plaxico Burress failed to pay part of his taxes, according to a collection agency.A district judge issued an arrest warrant for Burress Thursday after he failed to appear at a delinquent tax claim hearing Wednesday.Burress, who signed with the New York Giants in March, could be arrested and fined $2,500 upon returning to Pennsylvania, said Coraopolis District Judge Mary Murray.Keystone Municipal Collections attorney Tom Kratzenberg said Burress owes taxes for 1998 through 2002. The 1 percent wage tax was to be split between Moon Township and the Moon Area School District.The amount of taxes was not specified.
PITTSBURGH - Fifth-round draft pick Rian Wallace signed a three-year contract with the Pittsburgh Steelers Thursday.The 6-foot-3, 243-pound linebacker passed up his senior season at Temple to turn pro and was selected 166th overall in the draft. He had 325 career tackles, two sacks and two interceptions at Temple.The Steelers said Wallace will compete for one of the team's inside linebacker positions.
