ROSWELL, Ga. - Morgan Pressel won the U.S. Women's Amateur in a rout, beating college player Maru Martinez 9 and 8.

The 17-year-old Pressel won the final three holes of the morning round, reaching the midway point of the 36-hole final with a 4-up lead. After a short break, she returned on a rainy afternoon to quickly finish off her opponent, a 21-year-old senior at Auburn.

HELSINKI, Finland - Justin Gatlin didn't just win the 100 meters at the world track and field championships, he dominated it like no other sprinter in the meet's history.The 23-year-old Olympic champion bolted away from the overmatched competition Sunday night to win in 9.88 seconds, 17-hundredths of a second ahead of runner-up Michael Frater of Jamaica. The margin of victory was the largest in the 10 world championships that have been held since the meet's inception in 1983.

CARLSBAD, Calif. - Mary Pierce routed Ai Sugiyama 6-0, 6-3 Sunday in the finals of the Acura Classic for her first tournament title in more than a year.The sixth-seeded Pierce was dominant, winning 11 of the first 12 games and breaking Sugiyama's serve six straight times. By the time Sugiyama held serve - the seventh game of the second set - Pierce already had a 5-2 lead.

WASHINGTON - After a couple of tough weeks, Andy Roddick asserted himself at the Legg Mason Tennis Classic.Hitting 18 aces and showing the form he hopes will carry him far at the U.S. Open, Roddick beat James Blake 7-5, 6-3 Sunday to win the Washington hard-court title for the second time.

OCEANPORT, N.J. - Roman Ruler won the $1 million Haskell Invitational on Sunday, taking the lead from Sun King in the stretch and running off to a 11/4-length victory.Roman Ruler, sent off as the even-money favorite, won in 1:49.88, well off the stakes record of 1:47. The 3-year-old colt returned $4.20, $3 and $2.40.

EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J. - The Hambletonian turned into a photo finish - and the race wasn't even close.Two sons of SJ's Photo finished 1-2 in harness racing's biggest event Saturday, with Vivid Photo surprising favorite Classic Photo by rallying for a 23/8-length victory at Meadowlands Racetrack.
