The Butler County Community College men's basketball team's bid for a WPCC championship came to an end Saturday, when the Pioneers were defeated 96-68 by the Community College of Beaver County in the semifinals. Matt Lobaugh scored 18 points in the defeat.

BC3 (13-12) will hold its final home game of the season against West Virginia Northern at 7:30 p.m. Friday.

Lobaugh enters the game only seven points shy of 1,000 for his career.

Bucknell, the Patriot League school that has beaten some of the country's premier programs the last two seasons, joined The Associated Press' Top 25 for the first time.Bucknell (20-3) moved into the poll at No. 24, two spots below another newcomer. Kansas (18-6), one of the big-time programs the Bison beat last season, entered for the first time this season at No. 22.Connecticut (22-2) was a runaway No. 1 for the fourth straight week, but that run should be over after No. 4 Villanova beat the Huskies 69-64.North Carolina's first loss of the season returned Duke to the top of the women's poll, the fourth change at No. 1 this season.Duke (23-1) received 23 of 46 first-place votes and had 1,115 points — 12 more than No. 2 LSU (22-1).North Carolina (23-1) slipped to third after a 98-95 overtime loss to Maryland (22-3), which jumped two spots to fourth.

TULSA, Okla. — Eddie Sutton may have coached his last game, a 35-year career possibly ending six victories short of 800 because of a traffic accident in which he was injured and cited for driving under the influence.Oklahoma State announced Monday the 69-year-old Sutton would take a medical leave and that Sean Sutton, his son, will finish this season as coach.Sutton spent the night in the hospital with a head injury following Friday's accident in Stillwater.Witnesses described Sutton's sports utility vehicle as driving dangerously and erratically, forcing cars to swerve out of the way before he hit another SUV from behind at about 60 mph, according to police reports.

MISSISSAUGA, Ontario (AP) — Wayne Gretzky sidestepped questions about the gambling investigation that has engulfed him and his wife, and insisted he won't distract the Canadian Olympic team despite a scandal that has shaken all of hockey.Gretzky spoke Monday for just 4½ minutes in a news conference cut off by a Hockey Canada official when the NHL great repeatedly was asked about the integrity of the game.Gretzky's shoulders sagged at one point, and he reacted with a nervous laugh a couple of times. Hockey Canada official Andre Brin interrupted five times to say Gretzky would take only game-related questions.ANAHEIM, Calif. (AP) — Mighty Ducks defenseman Scott Niedermayer had arthroscopic surgery on his right knee and is expected to be sidelined for at least a month.

WASHINGTON — With much of the team absent and their colorful and quotable manager on vacation, the 2005 World Series Champion Chicago White Sox paid a visit Monday to the White House to be honored by President George W. Bush.Bush, a former co-owner of the Texas Rangers, showered the team with praise, thanked owner Jerry Reinsdorf for helping him get into baseball ownership years ago and saluted manager Ozzie Guillen for his skill and becoming a U.S. citizen.

MILWAUKEE — For the second time in a week, a Milwaukee Bucks chartered flight was forced to land because of mechanical problems.The Bucks spent Sunday night in New Jersey after their plane experienced vibrations and the crew decided to return to Newark, Midwest Airlines senior vice president Carol Skornicka said.On Feb. 6, a different Midwest charter heading to Cleveland had mechanical problem with one of the plane's engines.
