The Sarver-based FCAGems All-Star Cheerleading organization won five national championships at the American Cheerpower Nationals held recently in Columbus, Ohio.

Pink Ice, Emeralds, Sapphires, Turquoise and Tanzanites all won national titles. The Rubies and Diamonds finished in second place.

The Gems' coaches won choreography awards for Pink Ice, Turquoise and Tanzanites.

The Diamonds will be attending the world competition April 21 23 in Orlando, Fla.

Butler High School graduate Kate DeGeorge, a freshman at Thiel College, recently broke the school's indoor record for the 600 meters and ran legs on the school record-setting 800- and 1,600-meter relay teams.Thiel recently returned from the Disney Relays, where it placed second in the 1,600 relay.

The Butler High School competitive cheerleading team's second-place performance at the Universal Cheerleading Association National High School Championships Feb. 12 will be telecast at 5:30 p.m. Sunday on ESPN2.Competitive cheerleading will be aired from 4 to 6 p.m. that day on the network.
