The Karns City HighSchool baseball team will host Port Allegany at 4:30 p.m. next Tuesday in the first round of the District 9 Class AA baseball playoffs.
The winner of that game will travel to face No. 1 seed Brookville May 25.
The Gremlins, who finished the season 11-5, earned the No. 4 seed.
InClass A, No. 10 seed Union will travel to ElkCounty Catholic for a 4:30 p.m. game next Tuesday.
The Moniteau girls softball team earned the No. 1 seed in Class AA and will host Brookville at 4:30 p.m. May 25.
SLIPPERY ROCK — Slippery Rock University will send 10 athletes to the NCAADivision IIMen's and Women's Outdoor Track and Field Championships May 25 to 27 at Emporia State University in Kansas.SRUwill be represented in seven individual events and two relays. The women's 400-meter relay team of Jill Rekich (Butler), Vera McDaniel, Andi Rose and Janiece Rash is seeded seventh in the meet.The Rock's 1,600-meter quartet of Rekich, Rose, Alison Gardner and Melissa Sopher (Slippery Rock) is seeded 10th. Both relays set PSACrecords this spring and are the first women's quartets in PSAChistory to earn a berth in nationals.Rose, Rekich and McDaniel will also compete in individual events. Calista Shoaff (javelin) and Jennifer Hansen (pole vault), will also compete for SRU. On the men's side, Jeff Weiss (10,000 meters) and Shayne Cooper (110 hurdles) have qualified.
PITTSBURGH — Kimberly Nagy, a senior on the Knoch High School swimming team, will continue her academic and swimming careers at Chatham College.Nagy will be used in backstroke and sprint freestyle events. She plans to major in forensics.
