BUTLER TWP — Butler senior first baseman Aaron Ordy was voted MVPof the Golden Tornado baseball team at the program's annual banquet recently.
Adam Miller received the Hustle Award, Academic Award and Spirit Award while Josh Marchinoski received the Most Improved Player Award.
DeMatteis named softball all-America
Moniteau High School graduate and Mercyhurst North East softball player Natalie DeMatteis was named to the 2006 Louisville Slugger/NFCA National Junior College Athletic Association's Division II All-America team.
DeMatteis was one of only 15 players to be selected to the team.
She hit .535 with 16 doubles and 35 RBI.
The effort helped the Saints finish the season with an overall record of 27-10. They won the Western New York Athletic Conference and the Region XIX Championship.
SLIPPERY ROCK — Slippery Rock University women's tennis players Kayla Blackburn and Ashley Michaux and their coach, Matt Meredith, have been rewarded for their efforts during the 2006 season.Blackburn, a freshman, was named the PSAC West Rookie of the Year and earned first-team All-PSAC West honors as both a singles and doubles player.She ended the season with a combined record of 38-10 in singles and doubles matches.Michaux (13-1) was named to the All-PSAC West first team as a singles player for the fourth straight year.Meredith, The Rock's ninth-year head coach, was selected as the PSAC West Coach of the Year after leading the team to a 14-7 overall record.
