SLIPPERYROCK— Adrienne Orris, former head coach and science teacher at Patrick Henry High School in Richmond, Va., was named head varsity girls basketball coach at Slippery Rock High School.
Patrick Henry is a public high school and is the equivalent in size to a Class AAAAschool in Pennsylvania.
Orris graduated from Grove City College in 2003 and played four seasons of basketball there. She was a two-year captain and four-year point guard at Union City High School in northwestern Pennsylvania.
A 14-year-old Butler AAUsoftball team finished fourth in the Pennsylvania State Championship USSSAMajor Division.Team members include Dale Gallo, Andrew Wirtz, Mitchell Shaw, Jake Kiefer, Kevin Welsh, Cody Wheeler, Cory Wheeler, Brad Fuhrer, Zach Sessa and Ryan McClarnon.
COLUMBUS, Ohio — Jason Conti, a graduate of Seneca Valley, was released by the Columbus Clippers, the New York Yankees' Class AAA affiliate.Conti was batting .259 (22-for-85) with two home runs, six RBI, 12 runs scored and one stolen base.
JACKSON TWP — Seneca Valley named Kelly Matthews as its varsity girls basketball coach Monday night, though she hasn't formally accepted the position.Matthews coached Class AAAMoon to a 23-9 record last season, leading the Tigers to the WPIALfinals and PIAAWestern Final, where they lost to Hopewell on both occasions.
UNIONTOWN — Brett Rinker, 11, of Slippery Rock took first place with a 79 in the North East Junior Golf Tour event held Monday at Uniontown Country Club.His sister, Jenna Rinker, 14, finished second in the girls division with a 103.
