KARNS CITY — The Karns City School District opened the head coaching position for the high school girls track and field team.

Ed Kepple coached the squad for the last 17 seasons.

PITTSBURGH — Jeffrey Bauer of Butler carded a 7-over-par 78 at the West Penn Amateur qualifying golf tournament Tuesday at Alcoma Golf Club.That score makes Bauer one of seven alternates for the West Penn Amateur June 26 and 27 at Fox Chapel.

JACKSON TWP — The second annual Seneca Valley Football Strongman Competition was held recently at NexTier Stadium with about 53 players competing in seven events.The winners by weight class were Stewart Myers (heavyweight), Mark Poydence (light heavyweight), Bill Burns and James Daniels (middleweight) and C.J. Brown (lightweight).The event raised $4,800 for the Raider Nation Football Boosters.

Three area players were honored recently at the Pittsburgh Lacrosse Foundation's annual awards banquet at the Edgewood Country Club.Midfielder Dorothy Steighner was a Section I Girls All-Star while Dan McPherson was a Division 2 North Boys honoree. The Spirit of the Game Award, given to one middle school player in each district, went to Zachary Tomasovic in the boys division.
