KENNETT SQUARE, Pa. — Barbaro spent another "comfortable" day in the intensive care unit at the George D. Widener Hospital for Large Animals, and his veterinarian reports the Kentucky Derby winner's attitude "remains positive."There was no indication Barbaro's condition had improved since 80 percent of his left rear hoof wall was removed Wednesday to combat the often-fatal disease laminitis. For the third straight day, though, Dr. Dean Richardson said the colt's condition remained stable.Barbaro had another restful night, Richardson said Sunday, and assistant trainer Peter Brette emerged after a morning visit and said the colt "is in a good frame of mind."
SYLVANIA, Ohio — Natalie Gulbis has waited 4Z\x years for her first LPGA Tour victory. Mi Hyun Kim made her wait a little longer.Kim rolled in an 18-foot birdie putt on the third playoff hole to beat Gulbis and win the Jamie Farr Owens Corning Classic on Sunday.Kim earned her second victory of the year and seventh in seven seasons on the tour. The South Korean also won the Ginn Clubs & Resort Open in April.
SILVIS, Ill. — Australia's John Senden birdied the 17th hole and saved par on 18 to hold off J.P. Hayes and win the John Deere Classic, earning his first PGA Tour victory and qualifying for the British Open.Senden shot a 3-under 68 to finish at 19-under 265 and beat Hayes (65) by one stroke. Alex Cejka (67) and Heath Slocum (68) tied for third at 16 under.
DALLAS — Dallas Cowboys safety Keith Davis was shot twice while driving on a Dallas highway early Sunday and was hospitalized in stable condition after undergoing surgery to remove bullet fragments.His agent, Curtis Stephens, said the injuries were minor and that Davis expected to be released late Sunday or Monday.This is the second time in three years that Davis has been shot. He was an innocent bystander last time, and this time Stephens said the player was driving home from a family vacation.
LAS VEGAS — Shane Mosley stopped Fernando Vargas in the sixth round of their 154-pound rematch Saturday night, flattening Vargas with a walloping left hand for his second victory in the rivalry in five months.
