The Butler County American Legion Baseball League decided the pairings for its tournament at a meeting Monday night.
Karns City is at Mars, Butler Township is at Butler City but the game will be played at Butler Township, Meridian is at East Butler and Center Township is at Saxonburg. All games will be played at 6 p.m. today.
In other Legion baseball news, Jim McCaslin of Meridian will play in the Legion East-West All-Star game in State College July 23.
AMES, Iowa — Benjamin Bennett of Butler won the gold medal in men's tennis singles at the first Special Olympics USANational Games held last week.Pennsylvania had 86 athletes in the Games and 69 returned home with a medal.
AKRON, Ohio — The Western Pennsylvania Warhawks, a semi-pro football team based in Butler County, won their first game in team history over the weekend, a 41-0 decision in Akron against the Ohio Dawgs.Seneca Valley graduate Nate Lang's 12-yard interception return for a touchdown in the first quarter helped the Warhawks post a 35-0 lead by halftime.Lang later added a 40-yard field goal.Running back Frank Swick rumbled for touchdown runs of 45 and 35 yards.The Warhawks (1-2) will be home the next two Saturdays.This week, they will host the Ohio Cardinals on Armed Forces Night at 7 p.m. Any former or current member of the armed forces will be admitted for free.On July 22, the team will hold Seneca Valley Night at 7 p.m. against the Eastlake Vikings. Any current SV student will get in for free.
LATROBE — Steven Feczko of Butler captured the Boys 14-year-old title in a Kings Family Restaurants Junior Golf Tournament held at Latrobe Elks Golf Course on Monday.Feczko shot an 85 on 18 holes, one stroke better than his nearest competitor.
WIMBLEDON, England — Venus Williams dropped out of the WTA Tour's top 20, and Andy Roddick slid out of the ATP Tour's top 10 in the rankings Monday after both fell short of past performances at Wimbledon.Roger Federer's fourth consecutive Wimbledon title allowed him to stay at No. 1, but No. 2 Rafael Nadal closed the gap by reaching his first final at the All England Club.The first five spots in the women's rankings didn't change: Wimbledon champion Amelie Mauresmo remained at No. 1, followed by semifinalist Kim Clijsters, runner-up Justine Henin-Hardenne, semifinalist Maria Sharapova and Nadia Petrova.
ATLANTA — The NBA's Atlanta Hawks signed first-round draft pick Shelden Williams to a four-year deal Monday that will earn the former Duke standout about $5 million the first two years.
