NASHVILLE, Tenn. — Tennessee Titans defensive tackle Albert Haynesworth was given a five-game suspension Monday — the longest for on-field behavior in NFL history — for stomping on Dallas Cowboys center Andre Gurode's head and kicking him in the face Sunday.

The NFL said that Haynesworth was suspended for flagrant unnecessary roughness. The suspension, which is without pay, is effective immediately. Haynesworth will be eligible to return Nov. 19 for the Titans' game at Philadelphia.

ATHENS, Ohio — Four Ohio University student-athletes were suspended indefinitely Monday after arrests on charges that include assault and drunken driving, the school said.The suspensions of three football players and a basketball player came a day after a newspaper reported that 17 football players have been arrested this year and have faced no discipline from the school.Football players Tommy Stuck, Paul Johnson and Wesley Dunlap and basketball player Ken Ottrix will not be allowed to practice or compete in games during the suspension, the school said.

KIRKLAND, Wash. — The Seattle Seahawks' charter plane made an unscheduled stop late Sunday night to get medical care for Ray Rhodes, a special defensive assistant and former NFL head coach.The team said upon its return from Chicago that the stop in Rapid City, S.D., for Rhodes was "precautionary".The exact nature of Rhodes' situation was not immediately disclosed.
