The third annual George "Doc"Phillips Junior Varsity Wrestling Tournament takes place Saturday at the Butler Intermediate High School gym.

The double-elimination tournament features 18 teams — including Knoch and host Butler — and begins at 10 a.m.

Mars High School graduate and Valencia native Mallory Bugel earned third-team all-region honors by d3kicks.com after a stellar season for the Westminster College women's soccer team.Bugel, a junior forward, scored 11 goals and added 15 assists for the Titans this past season.

Slippery Rock University junior offensive tackle Mike Butterworth and sophomore defensive end Cory Lacek both received honors on Wednesday for their efforts during the 2006 season.Both were named to the Daktronics All-Northeast Region second team, while Butterworth was also named to ESPN The Magazine's Academic all-America first team by the College Sports Information Directors of America.

FLOWERY BRANCH, Ga. — Michael Vick was fined $10,000 by the NFL and agreed to donate another $10,000 to charity for an obscene hand gesture toward Falcons fans following last weekend's loss to New Orleans.Vick rushed for 166 yards in Sunday's 31-13 loss, just 7 yards short of his own NFL record for a quarterback.But the Falcons dropped five passes and were booed loudly following their fourth straight loss.

HOUSTON — Track star Justin Gatlin worked out for the Houston Texans on Tuesday, but coach Gary Kubiak said signing him was "not something we would do right now."Gatlin, an Olympic gold medalist and co-world record holder in the 100 meters, tested positive for testosterone and other steroids in April.The Texans worked him out as a receiver and Kubiak said team officials told him he was "very impressive."

SANTO DOMINGO, Dominican Republic — Albert Pujols thinks he was snubbed.The St. Louis Cardinals' slugger is upset he lost out to Philadelphia's Ryan Howard for the National League MVP award, saying the honor should go to someone on a playoff team.
