WINDBER, Pa. — A school board member hit a boys' basketball coach in the face after practice last week, police said.
Paint Township police cited Windber Area School Board member Timothy Harrigan, 50, for harassment and disorderly conduct on school property. District Judge Joseph Cannoni's office said Harrigan was mailed the citations on Monday.
Police accused Harrigan of hitting Gary Ursino, 33, during an argument Thursday in the coach's office at Windber Elementary School.
Ursino works part-time for the district as head ninth-grade boys' basketball coach, Superintendent Rick Huffman said.
Harrigan has been banned from attending athletic events, Huffman said.
SLIPPERY ROCK — Slippery Rock University All-America sophomore pole vaulter Jennifer Hansen was named Tuesday as the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference Women's Indoor Track and Field Athlete of the Week.Hansen set a new PSAC and SRU record Saturday when she cleared 12 feet, 4 inches at the Golden Flash Gala at Kent State University.The effort was four inches better than Hansen's previous conference and school standards.
THOUSAND OAKS, Calif. — Tiger Woods won PGA Tour player of the year for the eighth time Tuesday.Woods won his first tournament of the year, then finished his PGA Tour season with six consecutive victories. In between, he disappeared from golf for more than two months to mourn the death of his father.The award — also called the Jack Nicklaus Trophy — is decided by a vote of the players. The award began in 1990, and no one else has won it more than twice.Woods also won the Arnold Palmer Award for leading the money list at $9.9 million, and the Byron Nelson Award for the lowest scoring average at 68.11.
