SLIPPERY ROCK — The Slippery Rock University baseball team is ranked 39th in Collegiate Baseball Newspaper's NCAADivision IIpreseason national poll released Tuesday.

The Rock finished 34-22 a year ago — third in the PSACplayoffs — and returns nine regulars from that squad. Grove City graduate Billy Herman (third base), Mars graduate Josh Rape (pitcher) and Slippery Rock High graduate Scott Rice (pitcher) are among the returnees.

SRUopens the season Feb. 20 at Salem International (W.Va.).

NEW YORK — Tennessee Titans quarterback Vince Young won The Associated Press Offensive Rookie of the Year Award Wednesday.Young, who led Texas to the 2005 national championship and was the third overall pick in last April's draft, overwhelmed one of the strongest rookie classes in NFL history. He received 23 votes from a nationwide panel of 50 sports writers and broadcasters who cover the league.New Orleans wide receiver Marques Colston and Jacksonville running back Maurice Drew received nine votes apiece, followed by San Diego tackle Marcus McNeill (6) and Saints running back Reggie Bush (3).
