BOSTON — The Boston Celtics confirmed Sunday that the team had been fined $30,000 by the NBA for excessive contact with the family of Texas star freshman and likely lottery draft pick Kevin Durant.
General manager Danny Ainge sat next to Durant's mother during the Big 12 tournament. The league said Ainge violated rules demanding that contact be kept to a minimum between team executives and potential NBA draft picks, until college players officially declare for the draft.

ANN ARBOR, Mich. — Michigan coach Tommy Amaker was fired Saturday, two days after his sixth season with the Wolverines ended with an 87-66 loss at Florida State in the NIT.Michigan went 22-13 this season. Amaker's record at Michigan was 109-83, with three 20-win seasons, but his teams went only 43-53 in the Big Ten. The Wolverines never made the NCAA tournament under +Amaker+.scandal in its history.

LAKE PLACID, N.Y. — Mark Johnson was involved in another championship at the Herb Brooks Arena on Sunday, but this one didn't involve any miracles.Mark Johnson, who scored two goals in the 1980 U.S. Olympic hockey team's "Miracle on Ice" upset win over the Soviet Union, coached the University of Wisconsin women's team to its second consecutive national title with a 4-1 victory over Minnesota Duluth.
