IN BRIEF

Four Butler County teams will be playing in the upcoming WPIAL softball playoffs. They include:

Class AAAA

Seneca Valley (17-1) received a first-round bye and will face the winner of the Kiski Area-Connellsville game, which will be played at 6 p.m. Monday at California (Pa.) University.

Class AAA

Knoch (14-5) will face Montour (11-8) at 4 p.m. Monday at Hampton High School.

Mars (10-8) will take on Moon (13-6) at 4 p.m. Monday at North Allegheny High School.

Class AA

Freeport (9-8) will battle Mohawk (9-4) at 2 p.m. Monday at Seneca Valley High School.

Slippery Rock University freshman first baseman Jessica Kortz and junior shortstop Stacey Rhoades were named to the second team of the Daktronics Division II All-Mid-Atlantic Region squad by the region's sports information directors.Rhoades batted .414 with 14 homers, 44 RBI, 18 stolen bases and 15 doubles. Kortz batted .394 with 12 homers, 44 RBI, six doubles and three triples.
